How to insert the menstrual cup
Using the cup may be a little difficult at first, so be patient when inserting the menstrual cup. You need to practise inserting and removing it correctly, but once you have mastered the technique, it is very easy and comfortable.
Wash your hands thoroughly and adopt a comfortable position. Recommended positions include squatting, sitting on the toilet or standing. Do not use oil-based lubricants for insertion into the vagina.
You have two options for folding the cup:
A – Press the sides of the cup together and then fold the cup in half to form a ‘U’ shape.
B – Place a finger on the top edge of the cup and press inwards to form a triangle.
Masmi Tip While holding the folded cup in one hand, spread the labia with the other hand and insert the cup towards the coccyx or base of the spine. The ideal position for the cup is lower than for tampons. Once inserted, loosen the cup and it will open and fit snugly against your vaginal wall.
And how do I know that the cup is correctly positioned? To check that the cup is correctly positioned, turn it 360º by holding it by the base (above the handle).
